And death shall have no dominion… Though lovers be lost love shall not. Dylan Thomas

As a celebrant engaged to conduct a service, I will visit the family before the funeral and spend time with them, getting to know more about the life of the person who has died and a feel for the sort of person they were.

If distance precludes a meeting, then this initial stage can be achieved via telephone, email or Skype. I will ask specific questions about experiences, relationships, character and beliefs and will discuss with loved ones any favourite poems, hymns or music and the order of the funeral service.

Participation from family and friends is greatly encouraged in the form of readings, personal tributes or live music. And there may be specific requests; for example that each person present at the service places a flower on the coffin, or a personal note; that candles be lit or balloons released.

Whatever the wishes of the family I will try and accommodate them so that together we can create a ceremony that is unique and memorable. Using the information provided I will then write and prepare the service, including the eulogy, if desired. If I have been asked to write the eulogy I will produce a draft copy in advance of the funeral for the family to read and to confirm its accuracy. I will officiate at the funeral ceremony and will be there to support others who are speaking, if necessary.

In the days following the funeral the family will be presented with a typed copy of the full service.

My inclusive fee is £210.00 and this covers services within a fifteen mile radius of Reading.

Services beyond that will attract additional mileage fees.
